Considering our exceptional lineup of Nissan sedans, Garden Grove drivers may have a difficult time narrowing their sights on the one that satisfies all daily driving requirements. This is especially true when comparing the popular 2020 Nissan Sentra and 2020 Nissan Altima models.

Although they both channel the Nissan tradition of reliability, safety, and value, they compete in different classes and, in turn, offer distinct driving experiences. Still, it doesn’t hurt to break out the clipboard and see where each one excels.

To keep our comparison as fair as possible, we eliminated the price factor as much as possible by taking a look at the top-of-the-line 2020 Nissan Sentra SR with the Premium Package ($24,525) and the base FWD 2020 Nissan Altima ($25,025.)

Comparing the 2020 Nissan Sentra and 2020 Nissan Altima

The 2020 Nissan Sentra

2020 Nissan Sentra Side Profile

Equipped with a 2.0-liter, 4 cylinder engine, the 2020 Nissan Sentra delivers 32 Combined MPG. It's no slouch either with a formidable 149 horsepower.

The Sentra comes standard with Nissan Safety Shield® 360, our extensive suite of advanced safety technology. The Premium package presents even more comforts during your drive such as the Intelligent Around View® monitor, sport-leatherette-appointed seats, and the Bose® Premium Audio System with eight speakers.

Furnished with all the bells and whistles, the 2020 Nissan Sentra is an extraordinary sedan for the price.

The 2020 Nissan Altima

2020 Nissan Altima Side Profile

As expected, the base 2020 Nissan Altima bests the Sentra in terms of performance with a brawnier, 188 horsepower 2.5-liter engine. Even more impressive, the Altima goes toe to toe with the Sentra in terms of fuel economy with 32 combined MPG despite the remarkable increase in power and size.

Onto features, the 2020 Nissan Altima, like the Sentra, comes standard with Nissan Safety Shield® 360, which includes automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, intelligent lane intervention, and more. One could argue the Altima lags behind the Sentra in terms of comfort with cloth-seats, but it compensates well with nearly six more cubic feet of interior passenger volume and one more cubic foot of trunk volume to boot.

Additionally, the 2020 Nissan Altima does a splendid job to live up to the fully loaded Sentra, as it includes many premium tech features as a standard like Apple CarPlay®, remote engine start, and an 8-inch touchscreen display.

Which 2020 Nissan is Better: Sentra or Altima?

The long-awaited verdict: it depends.

If you want every safety and comfort feature available, go with 2020 Nissan Sentra. For more engaging performance and a larger cabin, the 2020 Nissan Altima is the better bet.
